ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
How do you get in?
To be considered for the interdisciplinary
minor in journalism, you must meet four requirements:
- Earn a B in JOUR102, American Mass Media. This
three-hour course is part of the University Core Curriculum. That
means it counts toward any baccalaureate degree you should
chose to pursue at Texas A&M.
- Score an 80 percent or higher on the University’s
Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation test within two attempts. The
test is administered by Measurement & Research Services,
001 Glasscock History Building. Details about how
to register and how to prepare for the test are available
at www.tamu.edu/mars. In lieu of taking the GSP, students may use their SAT verbal or ACT English scores, provided they are at least 600 or 25, respectively, in order to qualify for application to the minor.
- Maintain a 2.5 GPR before admission to the minor.
- Qualify for and enroll in the minor no later than five
semesters before graduation.*see note
- Complete the application in one of two ways: Click
here to print out and complete the application by hand.
Turn it in to either Randy Sumpter in Bolton Hall Room
209B or Roberto Farias in Bolton Hall Room 102K. If you
prefer to download the
application from this website, click here. After you have completed it electronically,
please Save As with your first and last names as the

After you Save As, you may then attach that Word doc
in an email to: jourminor@tamu.edu If you have any questions
about the application, please email jourminor@tamu.edu.
*Note: In some cases, it may be possible for a student to complete the coursework in a shorter amount of time; please contact us at jourminor@tamu.edu if you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss if the Interdisciplinary Minor in Journalism is a feasible option.
