What courses will you take?

You must take 18 hours of course work to complete the minor.  Fifteen of the hours are devoted to five journalism courses; the final three hours can be taken in a number of classes offered through departments in the colleges of Liberal Arts and Architecture.  The core journalism courses are:

  • JOUR200, Mass Media Information.
  • JOUR203, Media Writing I.
  • JOUR303, Media Writing II; JOUR 301 Mass Communication Law & Society (crosslisted with COMM 307); or JOUR304, Editing for the Mass Media.
  • JOUR484, Media Internship.
  • JOUR490, Journalism as a Profession.

The final three hours can be taken from a list of approved courses in

  • Anthropology (ANTH 216, 225, 301, 315, 317; 404),
  • Communication (COMM 350, 354, 456, 458; 480),
  • Economics (ECON 312 and 465),
  • English (ENGL 210),
  • History (HIST 343, 460; 470),
  • Music (MUSC 201 and 324),
  • Political Science (POLS 302, 329, 331; 359),
  • Psychology (PSYC 315), Sociology (SOCI 314, 324, 327; 423),
  • and Architecture (ARTS 489, ENDS 311; VIST 489).
